Instructions

Thank you for your interest in becoming an MTAC Composers Today Evaluator. Evaluators or Adjudicators for the CT program tracks are professional composers; college, university, or conservatory composition faculty; or music academy or independent private studio composition teachers, each with a post-secondary composition degree. They represent various genres of composition.

Please read through this carefully and follow the instructions below to submit your application.

The following considerations are used to assess each application submitted:

EXPERIENCE AS A MUSIC TEACHER – Applicants must be active music teachers.
EXPERIENCE IN EVALUATING – Applicants who have had experience in evaluating other state or national performance assessment programs and can evaluate with high but realistic standards are most successful as an evaluator. The ability to write constructive, positive comments to the students, even after hearing the same piece for the fifth time is important.
DEGREES, CREDENTIALS, AND CERTIFICATES – Outstanding Evaluator qualifications enhance the reputation of all MTAC State Programs. This information should be included in the application.
NEATNESS AND THOROUGHNESS OF WRITTEN APPLICATION –  Applications that are complete, well- organized, and neatly presented are judged favorably because MTAC Evaluators must present complete, well- organized, positive, helpful and honest written evaluations all under a time constraint.
ENGLISH FLUENCY –  Demonstrated fluency in written and spoken English is a necessary requirement for performing Evaluator work, in order to communicate accurately and effectively with MTAC Personnel, and to write comments to the students on the Evaluator Report Form.
MOST IMPORTANTLY – Evaluators must care about students, be sensitive particularly to high-school students and their desire to continue the study of music despite a hectic schedule, be encouraging to all levels of students, and maintain the highest standards of the MTAC State Programs.

Complete and submit the form below. After the application form is submitted, you will be notified of your application status on December 2, 2025.

The MTAC State Office will not confirm with applicants if documents were submitted correctly.

Selected evaluators are required to attend an Evaluator Training Session each year before evaluations begin for the MTAC State Program. Evaluator Training is provided by MTAC on specified days and times before the evaluations begin. Evaluators are required to abide by the State Program Policies & Procedures, State Program Evaluator Guidelines, and the Evaluator Employee Handbook.

All Composers Today Evaluators are considered temporary seasonal employees of the MTAC State Organization under California State Law.

We look forward to receiving your application. Thank you for your support and interest in the Evaluator position.
